title: Creating with VEO 3.1
description: Make cinematic video with native audio from a prompt or images with VEO 3.1, Google's video model, on invideo.
---
VEO 3.1 is Google's flagship video model, available on invideo. Your agent calls it as `veo_31.frames` (VEO 3.1: Frames) or `veo_31.ingredients` (VEO 3.1: Ingredients), and `veo_31.extend` makes a clip longer. It makes cinematic video from text prompts or images, with character consistency, native audio and control over camera, lens, lighting and style. Use it for promos, social media content, product demos and other video without a shoot.

## How to get started

In the invideo app, open VEO 3.1 from the generative models on the homepage.

1. Select **Generative models**, then **See all**, then **VEO 3.1**.
2. Upload a reference image, or start from a text prompt alone.
3. Add a first and last frame if you want to control how your video opens and closes.
4. Select your resolution and duration, confirm the credit cost, and generate.
5. Download your video.

The agent uses the same model through `generate`.

Your agent runs a dry run first. For any call that costs 1 credit or more, it tells you the price and waits for your yes. A call under 1 credit runs without asking, and your agent tells you what it cost.

## Spec information

`veo_31.frames` takes a prompt and an optional first and last frame. `veo_31.ingredients` takes reference images. The aspect ratios are 16:9 and 9:16. For resolutions, durations and sizes, the agent reads `get_model`.

## Prompt best practices

VEO 3.1 responds well to a layered prompt, in this order:

**Camera and lens, subject, action, environment, lighting, style, audio**

*Example: Wide tracking shot, a woman in a red coat walks through a foggy cobblestone street at dawn, warm lamplight, cinematic film texture, ambient city sounds.*

| Tip | Why it helps |
| --- | --- |
| Follow the layered formula | Gives VEO 3.1 every part it needs for a precise, polished scene |
| Specify camera and lens details | VEO 3.1 reads cinematic language directly: dolly, tracking, wide angle, close-up |
| Include audio direction in your prompt | VEO 3.1 makes matching sound. Describe ambient sounds, music tone or dialogue |
| Upload a reference image for consistency | Anchors character appearance and scene style across generations |
| Use first and last frame for transitions | Useful for projects with several scenes, where visual continuity matters |

Models retire. If a model is not found, your agent runs `find_models` with the job in words, uses the best match, and tells you. See [Models](/reference/models#when-a-model-retires).
