title: Adding dynamic text to your videos
description: Add styled, animated text overlays to a video with the Dynamic Text models, from a preset style or from a prompt.
---
Dynamic Text adds styled, animated text overlays to a video. The text sits in front of the person in the shot, like a motion graphic. It comes as two models:

- `dynamic_text.styles` (Dynamic Text: Styles) puts a preset text style on your video.
- `dynamic_text.diy` (Dynamic Text: DIY) makes free-form motion graphics from a prompt, on your video or on their own.

Dynamic Text is motion text, not a captioning tool. It does not transcribe speech. For captions that follow each spoken word, see [Word-by-word captions](/how-to/creators/word-by-word-captions), or use the `invideo_subtitles` model.

## How to get started

In the invideo app, open Dynamic Text from the generative models and tools on the homepage.

1. Search for **Dynamic Text** in the tools.
2. Upload the video you want to add text to.
3. Pick a preset style, or describe the motion graphic you want in a prompt.
4. Confirm the credit cost and generate.
5. Preview the result and download it, or place it on your timeline.

Your agent uses the same models through `generate` and reads the inputs with `get_model`.

Your agent runs a dry run first. For any call that costs 1 credit or more, it tells you the price and waits for your yes. A call under 1 credit runs without asking, and your agent tells you what it cost.

## Text styles

`dynamic_text.styles` takes a source video and a `text_style`. The styles are `NEON_COUNTDOWN`, `PIXEL`, `SCRIBBLE`, `SKETCH_STICKERS` and `STYLISH`. Each style comes with its own fonts, and you can set a `font` from its list and a font color. The `safe_zone` input keeps the text clear of the TikTok or Instagram buttons.

`dynamic_text.diy` takes a `prompt` and an optional source video. Without a video, it gives you the motion graphic on its own. You can add reference documents for the content of the graphic.

| Tip | Why it helps |
| --- | --- |
| Use a shot with one clear subject | The text sits in front of the subject, so a clear subject gives a clean result |
| Set a safe zone for short-form content | Keeps the text visible on TikTok and Instagram, where the app's buttons can cover it |
| Match the style to the content | Pick bold and playful styles for ads and UGC, and calmer styles for brand and editorial work |
| Use the DIY model for your own design | Describe the words, the motion and the look in the prompt |

Dynamic Text gives you a video file. A timeline export from invideo is a 1080p MP4.

Models retire. If a model is not found, your agent runs `find_models` with the job in words, uses the best match, and tells you. See [Models](/reference/models#when-a-model-retires).
