title: What is audio ducking and when would I use Ducker?
description: Create space for dialogue by reducing competing audio during speech.
---
Ducking reduces one sound while another needs attention, commonly lowering background music during dialogue. invideo Editor includes an effect named **Ducker** (`ducker`) in **Effects**, under **Audio**.

The ducker reacts to the track set by `set_sidechain_source`. On a new timeline that is `A1`, the voice track. If your voice is on another track, your agent points `set_sidechain_source` at it, then adds `ducker` to the music track with `add_audio_effect`. Set how far the music drops with the ducker's `reduction`.

The creative goal is clear speech with a musical bed that still feels continuous. You can also ask your agent to lower music under dialogue and review the result on the timeline. Listen to the start and end of sentences so changes in level do not feel abrupt.
