title: How to use the timeline in invideo Editor
description: Learn how to navigate invideo Editor timeline, work with video and audio tracks, preview clips and find editing controls.
---
The timeline in invideo Editor is where you arrange video, images and audio into a finished cut. Use tracks to organize picture and sound, the playhead to choose the moment you are viewing, and the Monitor to preview your edit. Edit by hand, or ask an agent, such as Agent Two or your own agent, to work on the same timeline.

## Understand the timeline and panels

| **Panel or control** | **What it does** |
| --- | --- |
| Media | Holds the video, images and audio available for your edit. |
| Timeline | Shows when clips start, how long they last and how they fit together. |
| Video tracks such as V1 and V2 | Organize the visual layers in your sequence. |
| Audio tracks such as A1 and A2 | Organize dialogue, music and other sound. |
| Playhead and time ruler | Identify the moment you are reviewing. |
| Monitor | Displays the picture at the playhead position. |
| Inspector | Shows settings for the selected clip or timeline. |

## Make your first timeline edit

1. Open a timeline and select **Edit** at the top of invideo Editor.

2. Open **Media**, upload your files and drag the media you want to use onto the timeline.

3. Arrange your clips in the order you want them to play. Keep dialogue, music and sound effects organized across audio tracks.

4. Move the playhead along the time ruler and preview the sequence in the **Monitor**. Zoom into the timeline when you need to inspect a cut more closely. Zoom changes your view, not the video's duration.

5. Select a clip to inspect its settings. Use **Audio** to adjust the sound balance and **Color** to adjust the image.

6. Play through the cut, check the joins between clips and open **Export** when you are ready to create a file.

## Find a missing panel

Open the layout menu beside the workspace controls and choose **Panels**. Enable the panel you need, such as Timeline, Media or Inspector. The menu also includes **Reset to Saved Layout** for returning to a saved panel arrangement.

## Work with agents

Open the agent panel and ask Agent Two for an editing task, then review the changes on your timeline. You can continue adjusting the clips yourself.

Edits and exports are free. Agent Two's work and the media it makes use credits. An outside agent edits for free and pays only for generation, transcripts and paid stock. See [Credits](/account/credits).
