title: When to use VEED vs invideo
description: VEED for captions on your footage in the browser. invideo for generation, an agent-run timeline, and sign-in with no API keys.
---
Use VEED when you want captions on footage you already have, in the browser, by hand. Use invideo when you also need generated shots, when your agent should run the edit on a timeline, and when you want your agent to sign in with no API key.

Both tools are online editors with auto captions (subtitles), translation and AI tools. VEED is built for a person in the browser. invideo is built for a person and an agent in the same project.

## One brief, two tools

The brief: a talking-head video, captioned in a brand style, with a generated opening shot and a 9:16 and a 16:9 version.

**In VEED.** You upload the video and turn on auto subtitles. You pick a subtitle style, set your brand colors and fonts, and fix any wrong word by hand. You make the opening shot with VEED's AI video generator, resize for each platform, and download each version.

**In invideo.** Your agent transcribes the video with `media` `audio.transcript` and adds captions with `add_captions`. It applies your brand with `set_text_style`. It generates the opening shot with a model after a `dry_run`, and places it first. It makes one branch per size and sets each with `set_timeline_settings`. It checks frames with `capture`, then exports each branch.

## At a glance

Checked on 29 October 2026 against VEED's site. It may change.

| | VEED | invideo |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Editable timeline after the cut | Yes, in its video editor | Yes, on a branch you can review |
| Generation | AI video generator, text and image to video, avatars | Video, image, voice and music models through `generate` |
| Captions | Automatic subtitles with animated styles | `add_captions` from a transcript; `veed_subtitles` and `invideo_subtitles` as models |
| Agent access | OpenEdit, a separate open-source editor your agent runs | CLI and skills for terminal agents; MCP server for clients without a shell; browser or device-code sign-in |
| Project files out | Video download | MP4, or a project for Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve |
| Offline | No, it runs in the browser | No, invideo runs in the cloud |
| Batch | Not stated on its site | `duplicate_timeline` and `export` per row, run in parts |

## Use VEED when

VEED fits a person captioning footage in the browser.

- You want captions on a recording and you fix them by hand.
- You want a screen recorder, a teleprompter or eye contact correction in the same app.
- You work alone in the browser and do not need an agent.
- Your agent only needs captions on one clip, offline on a Mac. Then OpenEdit fits; see [When to use OpenEdit vs invideo](/compare/openedit).

## Use invideo when

invideo fits when the captions are one step of a bigger edit.

- You need generated or stock shots next to your footage.
- Your agent runs the edit and you review a timeline, branch by branch.
- Your agent signs in as you, in the browser or with a device code. There is no API key to make, store or leak.
- You want the cut in Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve later.

## Use both

VEED's subtitle model runs inside invideo as `veed_subtitles`, for burned-in styled subtitles on a clip. You can also caption in VEED, download the video, and have your agent finish it in invideo with `add_media`. The steps are on [Use VEED with invideo](/integrations/veed).

## What VEED does better

Say it plainly. VEED is better at some things.

- **Caption editing by hand.** Subtitles are the center of VEED's app, and a person edits them directly.
- **Tools around recording.** A screen recorder, a teleprompter, eye contact correction and noise removal sit in the same app.
- **Simple start.** A person can open VEED and caption a video with no setup. invideo works best with an agent.

## Try the brief in invideo

Set up your agent first with [invideo for AI agents](/agents). Then give it the brief in your own words, like this.

```text
Caption this talking-head video in the brand font and colors. Add a
generated opening shot, priced first. Make a 9:16 and a 16:9 branch,
check the frames on each, then export both.
```

## Cost

Edits and exports are free in invideo. Generation and transcripts cost credits. Paid stock costs a small credit charge, or one of your workspace's iStock licenses. Your agent runs a dry run first and tells you the price before it spends anything. Models retire. If a model is not found, your agent runs `find_models` with the job in words, uses the best match, and tells you. Prices are on [Credits and what they cost](/account/credits).
