title: When to use OpusClip vs invideo
description: OpusClip picks short clips from a long video for you. invideo when every cut stays editable on a timeline and your agent runs the whole job.
---
It depends on who picks the moments. Use OpusClip when you want a long video turned into short clips with no prompt, and the clips it picks are good enough. Use invideo when you want every cut to stay editable on a timeline, and your agent to run the whole job.

OpusClip has a team workspace with shared projects, and its pages do not say several people can edit one clip at once. invideo is a multiplayer editor: you, your teammates and your agents work in one cloud project at the same time and watch every edit land live, each agent under its own name. Every timeline has branches, checkpoints and tags, like git branches for code: each person or agent works on their own branch, you compare the branches, restore any checkpoint, and make the winning branch the default. Anyone you share with can fork the project.

The job: a one hour podcast episode, cut into five vertical clips with captions.

**In OpusClip.** You upload the episode. OpusClip picks the highlight moments, reframes each one for vertical, and adds captions you can edit. You review the clips and download the ones you like. An agent reaches OpusClip through its MCP server, its Claude connector or its REST API, and edits by named clip operations, not on a timeline.

**In invideo.** Your agent transcribes the episode with `media` `audio.transcript` and reads it with the speakers and times. It picks the moments, and finds the ums with the transcript and the long pauses with `audio.content`. For each clip, it makes a 9:16 timeline on a branch, cuts with `split_clip` and `delete_clip`, adds captions with `add_captions`, and checks frames with `capture`. Every cut is a timeline edit, so you or the agent can undo one later.

## Use OpusClip when

OpusClip is built for the long-to-short job.

- You want clips picked for you from a long video, with no setup.
- You want each clip reframed for vertical and captioned in one pass.
- You want an API that sends clips to your CMS.
- Your team already works in it every day.

## What OpusClip does better

Say it plainly. OpusClip is better at some things.

- **Picking clips with no prompt.** OpusClip chooses the highlights for you. In invideo, your agent reads the transcript and picks, so the result depends on what you ask.
- **One pass from long to short.** Upload, pick, reframe and caption happen in one step. In invideo, your agent runs each step as its own edit.

## Use invideo when

invideo fits the job when the clips are only the start.

- You want the cuts as real timeline edits you can move or undo.
- Your agent runs the pipeline end to end: transcript, cuts, captions, music, export.
- You build your own pipeline in Claude Code or Codex, and you want the edit steps as named tools, not a separate app.
- You want each clip on its own branch, and the full episode in Premiere Pro later.

## Use both

Keep OpusClip for picking moments, and use invideo for the finish. Download the clip from OpusClip as MP4. Your agent adds it with `add_media`, then adds brand captions, music and the other platform sizes.
