title: When to use DaVinci Resolve or Premiere Pro vs invideo
description: DaVinci Resolve or Premiere Pro for finishing: grade, delivery above 1080p, LUTs and multicam. invideo to generate and assemble the cut, then hand over a project file.
---
Use DaVinci Resolve or Premiere Pro to finish a video: the grade, delivery above 1080p, LUTs and multicam. Use invideo to generate shots and assemble the cut with your agent, then export a project file and finish in the NLE.

An NLE (non-linear editor) is a desktop editing app. DaVinci Resolve and Premiere Pro are two widely used ones. invideo is a cloud editor with a timeline that your agent can drive, and it exports a project for either app.

## One brief, three tools

The brief: a two minute brand film from interview footage, b-roll and two generated shots, graded and delivered above 1080p.

**In DaVinci Resolve or Premiere Pro.** You import the footage, sync the cameras, and cut by hand. You make the generated shots in another tool, or in Premiere Pro with Firefly or a plugin. You grade with LUTs and color tools, mix the sound, and export at full resolution. You have full control of every frame.

**In invideo, then the NLE.** Your agent transcribes the interview with `media` `audio.transcript`, finds the quotes, and lays the cut on a branch. It generates the two missing shots with a model such as `veo_31.frames`, after a `dry_run`. It adds music and temp captions, checks frames with `capture`, and exports a project with `export` and `format` set to `premiere`, `final_cut` or `davinci`. You open the project in the NLE for the grade, the mix and the final export.

## At a glance

Checked on 29 October 2026 against the DaVinci Resolve and Premiere Pro product pages. They may change.

| | DaVinci Resolve | Premiere Pro | invideo |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Editable timeline after the cut | Yes | Yes | Yes, on a branch you can review |
| Generation | Not stated; its AI tools do smart reframe and auto color | Firefly and Generative Extend | Video, image, voice and music models through `generate` |
| Captions | Captions and subtitles on the Edit page | AI transcription and caption translation | `add_captions` from a transcript |
| Agent access | Not stated on its product page | Not stated on its product page | CLI and skills for terminal agents; MCP server for clients without a shell |
| Project files out | Its own projects | Its own projects | A project for Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve |
| Offline | A desktop app for Mac, Windows and Linux | A desktop app, with a mobile app too | No, invideo runs in the cloud |

## Use DaVinci Resolve or Premiere Pro when

An NLE fits the finish.

- You need a full grade, with LUTs, color tools and HDR.
- You deliver above 1080p. invideo exports 1080p.
- You cut multicam. Resolve has a sync bin for it.
- You mix sound in depth, with Fairlight in Resolve or the audio tools in Premiere Pro.
- You work on local media on your own computer.

## Use invideo when

invideo fits the steps before the finish.

- You want your agent to build the first cut from a transcript or a script.
- You need generated shots, stock, voice or music in the same project.
- You want a person and an agent in one project, each edit on a branch.
- You want to hand an editor a project file, not a flat MP4.

## Use both

This is the common path. Your agent assembles the cut in invideo, then runs `export` with `format` set to `premiere`, `final_cut` or `davinci`. `media_packaging` sets whether the media comes as a folder, a zip or not at all. The editor opens the project, grades and delivers. The steps and what carries over are on [Export to Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro](/how-to/export-to-premiere-resolve-final-cut).

```bash
invideo edit export <edit-url> --format davinci --media-packaging zip
```

`<edit-url>` is the timeline's URL, from `invideo edit new` or `list_projects`.

## What DaVinci Resolve and Premiere Pro do better

Say it plainly. These apps are better at some things.

- **Color.** Resolve's color page is a full grading suite. invideo has `edit_grade` and `apply_lut`, which cover a look, not a full grade.
- **Resolution.** Both deliver 4K. invideo exports 1080p, and upscales after with `media` `video.upscale`.
- **Multicam and deep audio.** Resolve syncs many cameras and mixes on Fairlight. invideo has no multicam tool.
- **Local work.** Both run on your computer with your local files. invideo runs in the cloud and needs a connection.
- **Collaboration on Resolve.** Resolve has project libraries for local and remote work, with Blackmagic Cloud.

## Try the brief in invideo

Set up your agent first with [invideo for AI agents](/agents). Then give it the brief in your own words, like this.

```text
Build a two minute cut from these interviews and b-roll on a branch.
Generate the two missing shots after a dry run. Then export a DaVinci
Resolve project with the media in a zip.
```

## Cost

Edits and exports are free in invideo, project files included. Generation and transcripts cost credits. Paid stock costs a small credit charge, or one of your workspace's iStock licenses. Your agent runs a dry run first and tells you the price before it spends anything. Models retire. If a model is not found, your agent runs `find_models` with the job in words, uses the best match, and tells you. Prices are on [Credits and what they cost](/account/credits).
