title: When to use Claude Motion vs invideo
description: Claude Motion animates charts and reports inside Claude. invideo edits its MP4 with footage, voice, music and captions on a timeline.
---
Use Claude Motion when you want an animated chart or a short explainer made from your content, inside Claude. Use invideo when that animation becomes part of a longer video with footage, a voice and music, edited on a timeline.

## The same brief in both tools

The brief: a 20 second animated chart intro for a quarterly report video. After the chart, the video cuts to the team's footage, with a voiceover and a music bed.

In Claude Motion, you ask Claude in a chat for the animated chart. Claude writes code that animates the text, the chart, the shapes and the images. You change a word, a number or a timing in the chat or in the editor, and the rest of the animation stays the same. Then you export it as an MP4. Claude Motion does not use a video generation model, so it makes no realistic footage or people.

In invideo, the MP4 comes into the project through the `import-claude-motion-from-url` tool, or your agent uploads the file with `start_upload` and `add_media`. The agent places it first on a timeline, then adds the team's footage after it. It voices the script with a TTS model such as `elevenlabs_text_to_speech.elevenlabs_tts_v4`, adds music from `search_library`, and adds captions with `add_captions`. You review the cut in the editor, and the agent runs `capture` and `export`.

## Use Claude Motion when

Claude Motion fits motion that comes straight from your content.

- You want an animated chart for a board deck or an all-hands.
- The data and the draft already live in your Claude chat.
- You change numbers and words often and want the rest to stay put.
- The whole video is text, charts, shapes and images, with no footage.

## Use invideo when

invideo fits when the animation is one part of a video.

- The video needs real footage, stock or generated shots around the animation.
- It needs a voiceover, music that clears rights, or captions.
- A person reviews and changes the full cut on a timeline.
- You make versions for different platforms from one edit.
- An editor finishes it in Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve.

Edits and exports are free. Generation and transcripts cost credits. Paid stock costs a small credit charge, or one of your workspace's iStock licenses. Your agent runs a dry run first and tells you the price before it spends anything. Models retire. If a model is not found, your agent runs `find_models` with the job in words, uses the best match, and tells you.

## Use both

Make the animation in Claude Motion, then finish the video in invideo. The hand-off is the MP4.

1. Make the chart or explainer in Claude Motion.
2. Export it as an MP4.
3. Bring it into an invideo project with `import-claude-motion-from-url`, or upload it with `start_upload` and `add_media`.
4. Add footage, voice, music and captions on a timeline.
5. Run `capture`, then `export`.

To change a number in the chart, change it in Claude Motion and export again. Your agent then replaces the clip on the timeline and keeps the rest of the cut.

## What Claude Motion does better

Say it plainly: for animating your own content, Claude Motion is the shorter path.

- It works where your content already is, in the chat.
- It turns a chart or a report into motion with no timeline work.
- One changed number or word leaves the rest of the animation the same.
- You need no footage at all.
