title: AI video tools compared, including invideo
description: A neutral roundup of AI video tools by job: generate, edit, caption, avatars, code motion, NLE finishing and batch renders, with invideo as one entry.
---
This page lists AI video tools and video editors by the job you want done. Each tool gets one paragraph, written from its own product pages. invideo is one entry here and gets the same plain treatment. Where a tool has its own compare page, the paragraph links to it.

Each paragraph was checked against the tool's own pages on 29 October 2026. Tools change, so check the tool's own site before you decide.

## Generate shots from a prompt

These tools make new video from text, images or references. Most of them do not edit a whole video around the shots.

- **Runway.** Runway makes video models, Gen-4.5 among them, and calls its web app "an all-in-one cloud-based creative platform". It also has an API and plugins that bring its models into Premiere Pro and After Effects. See [When to use Runway vs invideo](/compare/runway).
- **Higgsfield.** Higgsfield is a generation studio: video, images and voice from prompts or references, with presets, face swap and an "AI Influencer" builder. It has an MCP server for Claude. See [When to use Higgsfield vs invideo](/compare/higgsfield).
- **Magnific.** Magnific is known for its image and video upscalers. Its MCP server lets an agent trim, join, grade and upscale clips, and deliver ProRes or DNxHR files. See [When to use Magnific vs invideo](/compare/magnific).
- **Lovart.** Lovart calls itself an "AI Design Agent". You describe a poster or a menu and it makes the design. It is for still design assets, not a video timeline. See [When to use Lovart vs invideo](/compare/lovart).

## Edit footage you already have

These tools take your own recordings and help you cut them.

- **CapCut.** CapCut is a free editor on mobile, desktop and the web, with templates, auto captions and AI tools. It is built for quick social edits by hand. See [When to use CapCut vs invideo](/compare/capcut).
- **Descript.** Descript transcribes your recording and lets you "Edit your words to edit your video". It cuts filler words in a click, and its AI editor Underlord makes a first cut. See [When to use OpusClip or Descript vs invideo](/compare/opusclip-descript).
- **ChatCut.** ChatCut is a chat and transcript editor on macOS, Windows and the web. It exports an XML timeline for Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, and editable CapCut drafts. See [When to use ChatCut vs invideo](/compare/chatcut).
- **Tesseract.** Tesseract is an agent-run editor that "edits and renders on your computer". You keep an editable `.tsrct` project and share the MP4. See [When to use Tesseract vs invideo](/compare/tesseract).
- **invideo.** invideo is a cloud video editor with a real timeline. Your agent works in the same project as you, through the CLI in a terminal or MCP in a chat app, and you see each edit land in the browser. It generates shots with many models, cuts footage, and adds captions, music and voice. Edits and exports are free. invideo needs a connection and has no offline mode.

## Captions and repurposing

These tools turn one video into captioned clips for each platform.

- **OpusClip.** OpusClip "turns long videos into high-quality viral clips", adds captions you can edit, and reframes for each platform. It has an API. See [When to use OpusClip or Descript vs invideo](/compare/opusclip-descript).
- **VEED.** VEED is an online editor known for its subtitles. It also has translation, dubbing, avatars, a screen recorder and AI generation. See [When to use VEED vs invideo](/compare/veed).
- **OpenEdit.** OpenEdit is VEED's open-source editor that your agent runs. It started with captions on a clip. It renders on your own Mac, and transcription runs through a veed.io account. See [When to use OpenEdit vs invideo](/compare/openedit).
- **Pictory and Lumen5.** Both turn a blog post, a script or a URL into a video with stock visuals and templates. See [When to use Pictory or Lumen5 vs invideo](/compare/pictory-lumen5).

## Avatars and presenters

These tools put a talking person on screen from a script.

- **HeyGen.** HeyGen makes avatar videos and translates video with voice cloning and lip sync. It has APIs and exports SCORM packages for an LMS. See [When to use HeyGen or Synthesia vs invideo](/compare/heygen-synthesia).
- **Synthesia.** Synthesia makes "Lifelike avatars from a script" for training, onboarding and sales. It publishes as a link, an embed or SCORM, and dubs existing videos. See [When to use HeyGen or Synthesia vs invideo](/compare/heygen-synthesia).

## Code motion

These tools write video as code. They suit developers, charts and product motion.

- **Remotion.** Remotion lets you "Create videos & motion graphics with React". You render on your own machines or in the cloud. Its license has separate terms for companies. See [When to use Remotion vs invideo](/compare/remotion).
- **HyperFrames.** HyperFrames makes HTML video compositions with an agent and renders to MP4 on your computer. See [When to use HyperFrames vs invideo](/compare/hyperframes).
- **Claude Motion.** Claude Motion is a beta feature in Claude that builds short animations of text, charts, shapes and images as code. It does not make realistic footage or people. See [When to use Claude Motion vs invideo](/compare/claude-motion).

## Finishing in an NLE

An NLE (non-linear editor) is a desktop editing app for the final cut, the grade and the mix.

- **DaVinci Resolve.** DaVinci Resolve has edit, color, Fusion effects and Fairlight audio in one app, on Mac, Windows and Linux. There is a free version and a paid Studio version.
- **Premiere Pro.** Premiere Pro is Adobe's editor, with AI transcription, Firefly features and Generative Extend. It runs on desktop, with a mobile app too.

See [When to use DaVinci Resolve or Premiere Pro vs invideo](/compare/davinci-resolve-premiere).

## Batch rendering

These tools render many videos from one template through an API.

- **Creatomate.** Creatomate is "the creative automation platform for developers and no-code users". It renders from templates or JSON, takes a spreadsheet for bulk runs, and connects to Zapier, Make and n8n.
- **Shotstack.** Shotstack is a video editing API that says it can "Render thousands of videos in minutes". It has SDKs, sandbox and production API keys, an MCP server and a CLI.

See [When to use Creatomate or Shotstack vs invideo](/compare/creatomate-shotstack).

## How to pick

Start from the job, not the tool. The table names the group to read first.

| You want | Read first |
| --- | --- |
| New shots from a prompt | Generate shots from a prompt |
| A cut of your own recording | Edit footage you already have |
| Captioned clips for every platform | Captions and repurposing |
| A presenter on screen | Avatars and presenters |
| Charts or product motion in code | Code motion |
| A final grade and mix | Finishing in an NLE |
| Many videos from one template | Batch rendering |

Many teams use two tools: one to generate or record, and one to edit. invideo can take files from any tool on this page with `add_media`. For an NLE, `export` with `format` `premiere`, `davinci` or `final_cut` makes a project file for Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro.
