title: Licensing and commercial use
description: Who owns what you make in invideo, and how stock, music and generated media are licensed for commercial use.
---
You own what you upload to invideo. You can use the videos you make, including for commercial work, under the <a href="https://invideo.io/terms-and-conditions/" target="_blank">invideo terms and conditions</a>. Stock media inside a video stays under its own license. This page sums up the terms in plain words. The terms are the final word.

```json
{ "tool": "search_library", "arguments": {
  "url": "<project-url>", "library": "stock_music",
  "query": "calm acoustic" } }
```

## What you own

The terms split what is in a video into three kinds. Each has its own rule.

| What | The rule in the terms |
| --- | --- |
| Your uploads | You keep ownership of the files you bring in. |
| Generated media | invideo gives you whatever rights it has in what you generate. You may use, change, share and sell it, worldwide, with no royalty. |
| Stock media | Licensed to you for use in your videos. It stays under its own license, and you get no exclusive rights to it. |

The rights in generated media hold "subject always to these Terms, applicable law and third-party rights". invideo cannot give you rights it does not have. For example, a prompt that copies a known character or a real person's likeness can break someone else's rights.

## Stock video, images and music

Your agent finds stock with `search_library` in `stock_video`, `stock_image` or `stock_music`. Searching and looking are free.

<Steps>
<Step title="Search">
Your agent calls `search_library` with a library and a query. Each result has an id and a low-resolution `preview`. The person can look at it before anything is paid.
</Step>
<Step title="Look closer">
Your agent calls `media` with `stock` set to the result's id, to read frames or sound. This is free. It reads the preview, not the clean file.
</Step>
<Step title="Place it">
Your agent calls `add_media` with `stock`. This charges the result's cost: one of the workspace's iStock licenses for iStock, or a small credit charge for other paid stock.
</Step>
<Step title="Export">
On the timeline, paid stock shows invideo's stock mark. `export` renders it clean, without the mark.
</Step>
</Steps>

```bash
invideo library search <project-url> --library stock_music \
  --query "calm acoustic"
invideo asset add <project-url> --stock <stock-id>
```

`<project-url>` comes from `invideo project new` or `invideo project list`. `<stock-id>` is a result's `id` from `invideo library search`.

An active plan includes standard stock from libraries such as Storyblocks, Shutterstock, Pexels and Pixabay, and a monthly allowance of iStock licenses. The allowance resets each month and does not roll over. See [Plans](/account/plans).

Stock music sits in `stock_music` and follows the same stock rules. The terms treat it as licensed audio. See [Add music and sound effects that clear rights](/how-to/creators/music-and-sound-effects).

## Generated media

Images, video, voice and music from `generate` are generated media under the terms. You may use them commercially. Some care is still on you.

- **People and brands.** Do not generate a real person's likeness or voice, or another company's logo or character, without the right to use it.
- **Voice clones.** Clone only a voice you have the right to use, such as your own.
- **Ads.** Ad platforms have their own rules for AI content. See [Label AI content so the ad runs](/how-to/marketing/ai-disclosure-for-ads).

## What this page does not settle

The help center and the terms do not answer some questions. Check the terms, or ask <a href="mailto:support@invideo.io" target="_blank">support@invideo.io</a>, before you rely on these.

- Whether a platform such as YouTube can raise a content claim on a stock music track.
- The license terms of each stock provider. The terms include them by reference but do not quote them.
- The terms of each model provider for the media it generates.

## If something goes wrong

These are the common licensing problems.

| Symptom | Fix |
| --- | --- |
| A stock clip cost credits you did not expect. | Paid stock is charged when the agent places it with `add_media` and `stock`. Each `search_library` result shows its `cost`. Ask your agent to tell you the cost first. |
| `add_media` with `stock` is refused. | The workspace is out of credits, or out of iStock licenses for the month. Buy credits, swap the clip for standard stock, or wait for the reset. |
| A video is claimed on a platform. | Contact support with the stock id and the claim. |
| The agent saves a stock preview as a file and places it. | Avoid this. Instead, place stock with `add_media` and `stock`, so it is licensed and the export uses the clean file. |
